The Massachusetts Building Electrification Accelerator

Committed to a Commonwealth of sustainable, resilient, and healthy buildings, affordable and attainable for all.

WHY ELECTRIFY

Hundreds of thousands of buildings in Massachusetts rely on fossil fuels – natural gas, heating oil, and propane – for heating and cooking. These fossil fuels cause climate change, pollute indoor and outdoor air, and disproportionately burden environmental justice communities. The BEA supports local programs and policies to electrify and weatherize buildings in Massachusetts.

OUR MISSION

To accelerate equitable building decarbonization in Massachusetts via municipal action.

OUR VISION

A Commonwealth of sustainable, resilient, and healthy buildings, affordable and attainable for all.

OUR THEORY OF CHANGE

The Building Electrification Accelerator convenes municipal teams, catalyzes successful local policies and programs, and coordinates state-level action with allies.

Our Work

The BEA focuses on local support for building electrification. We facilitate a network of municipal leaders focused on equitable building electrification. We engage in collaborative problem-solving and provide support obtaining funding, partnerships, and resources.

Many municipalities and local climate advocates benefit from support creating programs and policies to electrify buildings in their communities.

The BEA works to strengthen connections and information-sharing between municipalities, technical specialists, and nonprofit partners to advance local building electrification.
